Hello SKCMA students,

One of my favorite drumset teachers, Doug Auwarter, once told me,

“A live show is worth 3 lessons.” There’s nothing like seeing a great musician perform on the instrument you are studying, in a live concert context. I highly encourage our students to get out to see live music as much as possible – it’s inspiring, it’s educational, and it’s so much fun! In light of that, I wanted to highlight some great shows happening in KC soon:

KC Symphony with Yo-Yo Ma – Sept. 30
KC Symphony Mobile Music Box – Free! Outdoor at parks around the city through Oct. 27.
Lenexa Outdoor Concert Series – Free! Various dates and bands
Back Alley Brass Band Oct. 2
Chris Stapleton – Oct. 9

Many of the SKCMA teachers also perform – ask your teacher where they are playing and go see them do their thing!

And, of course, our own Fall Recitals that are just around the corner – on November 9 and 10, the SKCMA students will be performing!  🍂

Here’s to your musical success!

Student of the Month – Isabella Freeman

Q: Why did you start taking music lessons?
I: My grandma had a piano and I wanted to learn!

Q: What’s your favorite song you’ve learned so far?
I: “Old McDonald Had a Song”

Q: Do you have any future goals for your music/instrument?

I: I would like to take singing lessons.

Isabella’s teacher, Ezra, chose Isabella because, “She practices consistently and is making steady progress.”

Congratulations, Isabella!
