The BEST Place to Learn the Drums in Kansas City!

Whether you are brand new to the drums or have been playing for years, South Kansas City Music Academy will take you to the next level! Beginning students need only their drumsticks at lessons, and all that’s needed for the first month at home is an inexpensive drum pad. Drummers are encouraged to bring in their favorite drum parts to learn. Many of our students are band members who play in local clubs and churches. Ages 8 – Adults

What styles do you teach on drums?

We teach all styles: rock, pop, blues, jazz, country, and modern church worship.

How qualified are South Kansas City Music Academy’s drum instructors?

Our drum teachers have received their education from excellent universities such as Kansas City’s own University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Our teachers bring a wealth of teaching and performing experience to their lessons. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and get to know each student on a personal level.

What will I learn in drum lessons at South Kansas City Music Academy?

Beginning drummers will learn basic grooves, fills, correct technique, and easy songs. As they advance, drummers will expand their groove and fill knowledge, try out various genres, improvisation, and learn how to play in a band setting.

Do I have to know how to read music?

No. Beginners are welcome!

Are there student recitals?

Absolutely! Every Spring and Fall, our students have the opportunity to perform on stage for family and friends. Unlike most of our competitors, we do not charge students a fee to perform and admission is free, so you can invite all of your family and friends.
