What will I learn in guitar lessons at South Kansas City Music Academy?
Beginner guitar students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of guitar method books, and encourage students to bring in songs they want to learn.
Advanced students will work on soloing/improvisation, lead lines, using guitar pedals, challenging songs, and more.
Do I have to know how to read music?
No. Beginners are welcome!
Do I need to purchase a guitar to learn the instrument?
You can borrow one of ours to use during for your first lesson, then you will need to purchase a guitar to practice at home. We have several guitars we recommend for beginners- a full size acoustic guitar we really like is the Fender CD-60 that you can get new for about $200. Full list of recommended guitars here.
Are there student recitals?
Absolutely! Every Spring and Fall, our students have the opportunity to perform on stage for family and friends. Unlike most of our competitors, we do not charge students a fee to perform and admission is free, so you can invite all of your family and friends.
