Hello SKC Music Academy Students!
I have a practice tip for you today that can do wonders for your progress, but few musicians take advantage of:
Record yourself playing at home.
Recording ourselves, either by video or audio, is a fantastic way to assess our performance in a way that we usually can’t when we’re just practicing. Record yourself playing through your most recent song or exercise, then listen back and note what you hear.
You may hear yourself speeding up during certain sections or playing a wrong note you didn’t realize. And you may be pleasantly surprised at how good you sound! We are usually our own worst critic, so hearing our progress can be very encouraging. This also helps your ears develop, learning to listen deeply and intentionally.
When you’re recording, it doesn’t have to be professional quality, and it certainly doesn’t have to be shared with anyone. Using the recording app on a phone or tablet usually works great for this type of exercise. I encourage you try it out this week, and let us know about your experience!

Student of the Month – Carter Atchley
Carter Atchley has been taking piano at SKCMA for a little over a year! His teacher, Karren Schiele, said he is prepared at each lesson, and gives props to Carter’s mom for her support in his practicing!
Here’s little more about Carter:
Age and School: 8, Boone Elementary
Why did you start piano lessons? To learn a pumpkin song! (at Halloween)
Do you have future music goals? To play for the recital
What do you want to be when you grow up? A youtuber or Book Artist
Any advice for other music students? Practice each song 3 times a day with a break!
Congratulations, Carter! Keep up the great work!

Want to play in a band? You can!
